My son recently moved into a new apartment and asked me if I would do a painting for him. This is a painting of his car. It is acrylic on Canvas, 24 x 36.

I was asked to do a painting for my principal, who is going on to a new job. I was so excited to do it, because I honestly had already decided to before I was asked! He has been a wonderful leader. I wanted to do a collaborative art piece. This painting was done in several steps. I first toned the canvas with Red Iron Oxide. I loved the effect from the Boba Fett painting and wanted to use it again. Then I created acrylic transfers from some prints of our school mascot and a photograph of the school. If you have never done acrylic transfer, it is a really neat process. Basically, you paint the top of the image with a really thick layer of acrylic medium. Let it dry overnight, and then soak in warm water until the paper softens up. Then you gently peel off the paper backing. The image has transferred in to the acrylic itself. Any areas that were white become transparent. I laid those onto the canvas and attached them with more acrylic medium. They become a part of the painting. Over the top, I painted our school mascot. I left plenty of negative space, because I had a plan for the final touch. I asked all faculty and staff to sign the painting in either black or silver paint pens. I was surprised by the response, at first some of them were too nervous to write on it! But the signatures look great and became a really important part of the piece. I think it captures the energy and spirit of our school. I have some really cool neighbors. He loves Star Wars. She commissioned a painting for his birthday of his favorite Star Wars Character. I have never painted anything like this before but I was excited to try it. See the step by step in the slide show. Very exciting thing happened, one of my paintings was used in the September Issue of Plumage-TX magazine as part of an article for the Hill Country Invitational Art Show happening in Boerne, TX on Oct. 16-18. I had no idea and I was thrilled when I saw it! The painting is a large 20 x 30 Acrylic on Canvas and will be for sale at the show. I have been working on a portrait of an artist friend of mine, Carl W. Block. I thought it would be interesting to take pictures of the different stages to see the progression. The portrait is |
